Wholesale Clearance

When you are looking for low priced stock to sell in your online store, through a bricks and mortar store or via marketplaces such as eBay, wholesale clearance sourcing is a great option. Normally this means that you are buying stock which has been sourced from another company which has either ceased trading (possibly bankrupt stock) or the company needed to sell it quickly and usually at a loss.

Some people have a negative view of bankrupt stock, or indeed stock which has been resold cheaply. The reality is this is normally a result of the original company paying too much for each unit, and then being unable to resell it at a profit. As a result, they have simply 'got rid' of it, and therefore got a much lower price than they paid for it. Think of this as damage limitation.

Specialist companies deal in wholesale clearance stock, and they have a very good idea of the value of the stock they take on. If you are prepared to sell pretty much anything you can get pallets of 'blind' stock which is very cheap and you can sell on to your customers via any channel you please. Often you also have the advantage of not having any limitations associated with branded stock that the high street retailers may be bound to.

Common types of clearance stock include clothing, DVDs, electrical equipment and jewellery (jewelry for the Americans amongst our readers!). The secret to reselling at a profit is to really think about your market. Clothing is typically out dated when sourced via wholesale clearance, so don't try to sell it at the recommended retail price when it was in fashion. Instead sell it at 75% off, which will normally still represent a huge mark up on clearance prices. That's not to say you can't show the recommended retail price on your website or eBay listing. Make a big point of showing the discount, buyers love a bargain! Similarly with DVDs and video games, you likely won't receive the latest titles, so attractive pricing is the name of the game.

Wholesale clearance buying is one opportunity in the huge wholesale arena, and is a fantastic way of building stock without huge expense. If you are happy to commit some funds to stock rather than simply drop ship, sourcing clearance stock represents a much better profit margin than simply reselling a manufacturers products on a drop shipping model.
